Tucked away on a graceful bend of the Riverwalk in San Antonio, is the lovely Hotel Contessa. Set amidst lush foliage, the serene flow of the San Antonio river and the shade of beautiful stately trees, the Contessa stands as a respite for the weary traveler. Everything about her is warm, gracious and inviting. The Hotel Contessa welcomes you from the moment the valet accepts your car until the time you reluctantly depart. Hospitality and service are number one with this locally-owned hotel.
San Antonio has always held a special place in my heart ever since my husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there in l990. In 2015, we are anticipating the celebration of our 50th. We are thinking about renewing our vows on their wedding island surrounded by family and friends. We wanted to experience this exciting city from the eyes of grandparents sharing a memorable family experience with their children and grandchildren. We imagined casual breakfasts on their outdoor terrace, where we could “people watch” while also enjoying the graceful parade of birds and ducks serenely passing by.
Outside Contessa
During the day while the family would be away doing “their own thing”, we could stroll over to LaVillita to check out  the many little shops and cafes or even take a ride on the trolley that encircles the city.
Family on Riverwalk
Since all the rooms are luxury suites, we envisoned babysitting in the evening so the parents could
enjoy a relaxed meal. We could put up our feet and catch our breath while the kids got cozy on their “over the top” luxurious bed.
Contessa Room
Did I mention the heated outdoor swimming pool?  Plenty of cushioned lounge chairs that would allow us to stretch out while watching the kids romp in the pool.

This would give them a chance to unwind until we took them back to our room for movies, pizza, and (hopefully) nodding off before their parents returned.  Having a two room suite would allow us to replenish ourselves by catching our favorite show on the parlor/living room side of the suite.

Whether you are traveling as a single, married, with or without children or multigenerational, this hotel “fits the bill” both literally and figuratively.  They have many special rates to consider and are happy to work with families planning special events. Nostalgia and the creating of future memories are all right here.
Check it out for yourself. For us, however, we feel we are “all set” as we have found our own little piece of heaven!
