You can make memories that will last a lifetime, simply by discovering a new corner of the world together and taking the time to reconnect and relax. It’s just what every couple needs! So to jump start your planning, here are five of our favorite romantic destinations.

Montreal13183h.jpg

Bundle up and be rewarded by one of the most romantic cities in North America. It was featured in a season one episode of “Family Travel with Colleen Kelly” due to its family-friendly nature. But Montreal’s old-world charm and cultural attractions also are perfect for couples. Montreal is a relatively quick trip for many Americans, but it feels a world away. It’s the most European city in North America, with a French-speaking population will make you think you’ve ventured much farther than you have. Stroll along the snow-blanketed cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, and explore the many boutiques and shops. Croissants, ice cider, foie gras and chocolate are never far away. Montreal is bursting with famous eateries. One that we recommend is charming Poutineville, which specializes in Quebec’s signature dish consisting of fries, gravy and cheese curds. When we were shooting the show, we stayed at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, a centrally located hotel with beautiful, peaceful rooms. It’s the perfect getaway for any couple seeking a little romance in a “faraway” place. They don’t call Montreal the “City of Love” for nothing!

Palm Beach palm_beach_2__2_.jpg

Romance is always in the air in Palm Beach. Featured in season two of “Family Travel with Colleen Kelly,” which premieres in spring 2015, the area is known for its art and culture, as well as for being a world-class food and wine destination. Luxurious resorts are spread across the beachfront. We were fortunate enough to experience the Boca Raton Resort and Club, the perfect setting for a romantic retreat. It’s an iconic resort that has been part of the fabric of Palm Beach for years, but it’s also beautifully updated with modern luxuries. You can spend a day relaxing in a private beach or pool cabana, enjoy a couples massage in the seclusion of a private villa or get adventurous and take a surfing lesson together. Of course, Palm Beach is a big golf town, so if you enjoy hitting the links together, there are many breathtaking courses to choose from. In the evening, get warm and cozy around a fire pit on the beach and enjoy champagne and s’mores. Or if you’re looking for a little more excitement, enjoy the downtown district. With its many upscale shopping options, Palm Beach has been called “the Rodeo Drive of the East Coast.” You’ll also find a trendy and vibrant nightlife, so take your partner dancing!

La Paz, MexicoIMG_4801.JPG

La Paz is a hidden gem of Mexico, located in Baja California Sur a few hours from the bustling city of Cabo San Lucas. The area’s intimate resorts line the Sea of Cortez and are sure to reignite a spark in any relationship. Colleen recently spent her birthday at the spectacular Costa Baja Resort, a great escape from the outside world. La Paz offers old Mexico charm, jaw-dropping sunsets, natural beauty and unique opportunities to interact with wildlife. You’ll never forget swimming with your partner in the open ocean with wild whale sharks and seals. The boats that take visitors on these excursions often are followed by dolphins, as they jump in the wake and give tourists quite a thrill. The beaches are private and pristine — couples can spend an entire day in the warm sand and not even realize the time has passed. Anyone who needs a little more action can rent a kayak and explore the surrounding deserted islands. Paddleboard yoga at Costa Baja Resort is a popular activity for visitors. Couples will love this unique experience, as they learn new yoga poses out in the ocean, with the beauty of La Paz and the Sea of Cortez surrounding them.

Pensacolapensacola2.jpg

We got to know Pensacola when we spent a week there shooting an episode for season two of “Family Travel with Colleen Kelly,” which premieres this spring. We already knew the area had a lot to offer families, but we were surprised to discover that it can also be a great getaway for couples. Pensacola’s white sand beaches invite you to sink your feet in and gaze out at the sparkling turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This beachfront community is full of opportunities to catch romantic moments with the one you love. Go on a hot air balloon ride, take a wine tour at the historic lighthouse or get a little adventurous on a private sailing excursion. If sightseeing is your thing, you can visit the National Naval Aviation Museum and see the Blue Angels — they practice right in Pensacola! After a busy day, take a peaceful, intimate walk along the quiet coast of Pensacola, which offers miles of uninterrupted sand. Bring a bottle of wine and snuggle up on a bench while you and watch the sunset. Or if you plan to go out to dinner in the historic district, you can rent a horse-drawn buggy for a romantic ride to your evening plans. A favorite Pensacola restaurant of ours is Peg Leg Pete’s Oyster Bar. It has amazing fresh seafood, a fun beachy atmosphere and live entertainment, making for an exciting date night. With so much to do in Pensacola, remember not to over pack the itinerary. Select a few meaningful activities and leave lots of openings for relaxation so you can simply enjoy your down time together in this sunny Florida destination.

Napa Valley, Californiadsc_1725.jpg

Located in northern California, Napa Valley is one of the most popular romantic destinations in the United States, thanks to its rolling hills and lush vineyards. We haven’t featured Napa on the show yet, but it’s on our wish list! Tour a world-renowned winery and learn how your glass of wine came to be, or spend your time in the tasting room finding the perfect bottle to take home. Many of the wineries are picturesque destinations with grounds meant for strolling, so be sure to explore. You can also see the countryside on horseback or ride in a hot-air balloon for an unforgettable experience. There are so many lodging options, from the very chic to the more affordable. Couples can stay in luxury resorts and spas or quaint bed and breakfasts. Many of accommodations offer stunning sunset views, top dining experiences and, of course, proximity to the ultimate in wine tasting. In the evenings, relax by a fire or take a dip in the resort pool or hot tub. Napa Valley is a premier destination for creating an enchanting and intimate experience for you and your love. You’ll never want to leave the sun-splashed vineyards!
