Colleen’s mom reminisces about special times with family at lakeside retreat

My husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 16, 2015. Because 50 is a very special anniversary, we decided to revisit the places that held cherished spots in our hearts.
We honeymooned at The Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wisconsin. Over the years, we have been back to the resort for our anniversaries. This last time, though, was a whole new experience, as we decided it would be nice to have our daughter Colleen, her husband Greg and our grandchildren join us.

While still maintaining the feel of a Swiss chalet, the hotel has been beautifully updated and modernized. Our room was cozy, our beds were sumptuous, and our windows faced Lake Geneva. The Abbey staff consisting of Julia, Bill and Jack were gracious and so accommodating. We had the experience of meeting our sous chef, who personally attended to all of our requests. While dining, we were entertained with the beautiful music provided by Tom the piano man.

All of our meals were wonderfully prepared. There was a buffet with an “all-you-can-eat” menu consisting of prime rib and crab legs, so the buffet won…..hands down! The grandkids were happy with the buffet because it also included a beautiful dessert table.

My daughter and I spent time at the Avani Spa, where we were pampered for two hours. Lingering was encouraged, which we were glad to do. While we enjoyed the spa, grandpa and dad enjoyed the indoor pool with the kids.

Since we visited The Abbey in the winter, we felt like we were staying in chalets in the Swiss Alps. Our whole family is anxious to revisit when we can enjoy the summer experience on beautiful Lake Geneva.
The Abbey is beautiful and ready for whatever season you choose. We have made memories that will last a lifetime while staying there, and we know you will too!
