While there are plenty of things to do in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a visit wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Lookout Mountain. The mountain itself includes attractions such as the Incline Railway, Ruby Falls, and Rock City, and is an excellent destination for the entire family.
The Incline Railway takes passengers straight up the mountainside and even hits an elevation of 72.2%, making it one of the steepest passenger railways in the world. (And oldest – the funicular system has been around for over 100 years). It’s considered America’s most amazing mile for a reason!
While you’re there, be sure to take the journey to Ruby Falls. An elevator takes visitors 260 feet down into the cave to see this breathtaking underground waterfall – the waterfall is 1,120 feet below the surface of the mountain. It is truly a sight to see!
Once you’ve taken a ride up the mountain, a visit to Rock City is a must! Considered one of Chattanooga’s best attractions, the mile long trail will give you an experience you will never forget. The mile long path leads visitors through the garden, amazing rock formations, and beautiful caves. The best part? The view at the top of the mountain, where it is possible to see seven states in the distance – including North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, among others!
Lookout Mountain is a great way to spend the day with family. You can even purchase a three in one package to see all of the attractions!
