As the winter grew colder, darker and more depressing, the “Family Travel with Colleen Kelly” team decided to attend the Travel & Adventure Show in January to see some sunny destinations and find fun things to do with the family. To really get away from it all, I decided a stay at the Loews Hotel in Rosemont. That made it feel more like a real getaway! Being the planner that I am (or maybe to get some time to myself), I took off early, ahead of my family, to check things out. I started my day by navigating my way through the halls of the posh Loews, enjoying the many pieces of artwork on the walls and of course stopping for a Starbucks before heading up to our amazing suite. After I saw the spa bath, I couldn’t wait for my day to be over to take a soak in the sunken tub! From there, shopping was in order at some of the best stores at Rosemont’s Fashion Outlets, which was virtually steps from the hotel. I also had a quick bite at Villagio.

I kept thinking that this Rosemont adventure would be a perfect girlfriends getaway. We can shop til’ we drop, eat fantastic food and stay overnight at a hotel — without kids of course. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but sometimes getting away is just what the doctor ordered! And a big plus is that Rosemont is a hop, skip and jump from Chicago and most suburbs, so I am available just in case they REALLY need me.

When the family arrived, we headed over to MB Financial Park for some iFLY Indoor Skydiving fun, which was right up my alley. I can’t wait to go back, something else to talk my friends into! The best part is that Frozemont is going on at MB Financial Park until March 1. There’s an ice skating rink and a four-story tubing hill. Talk about fun for all! My husband and I went into the Hofbrauhaus for a stein of beer, great German music and food. We of course sat close to the windows so we could keep an eye on our kids while they tubed down the hill, being sure to be available for the major wipeouts! We almost went bowling at King’s but realized we were all pooped and the kids were ready to head back to the hotel for a warmup!

We decided we’ll be going back to Rosemont again this season. I highly recommend this fun area if you’re looking for some winter entertainment and great dining. It’s easily accessible to Chicago and the ‘burbs, but it’s also a great destination if you’re flying through town and have a layover at O’Hare, which is so close to the park. I also can’t wait to check it all out in the summer, when they have all kinds of concerts, fireworks and festivals going on. No matter the time of year, I think Rosemont and MB Financial Park have a lot to offer in terms of hotels, restaurants, entertainment and fun for all ages. And it’s all centrally located. Check it out if you need to cure your winter blues!
