Peppa Pig Balloon Ride at Peppa Pig Theme Park at LEGOLAND in Florida

Kids love LEGO® bricks and having a chance to play all day in the LEGO world is something your kids or grandkids will really enjoy.

Located in Winter Haven in Central Florida, about an hour and a half from Orlando airport, LEGOLAND® offers visitors three different experiences to share. There’s the LEGOLAND Florida Theme Park with thrilling rides and shows, a water park, and a Peppa Pig Theme Park.

The first ever Peppa Pig Theme Park, located right next door (requires separate admission) brings the popular Peppa Pig and her family to life with rides, shows, and attractions. For kids who like to jump in muddy puddles like Peppa, this is the ultimate place to go for the little ones.

If you want to stay overnight, choose from three hotels: LEGOLAND Hotel, Pirate Island Hotel, or the Beach Retreat.

Accompanied by my husband and two 10-year-old grandsons, we discovered a lot of amazing adventures in Central Florida, too, from driving a boat to feeding the animals in a discovery safari. It was an experience the boys will always remember and something we were thrilled to share.

Plan Your Visit Ahead of Time

I spent time looking at the LEGOLAND website and showed my two ten-year-old  grandsons all of the things we could do. I wanted to gauge their interests and see what they wanted to do.

They were very excited to visit the LEGOLAND Hotel, where they could play with zillions of LEGO activities right in the lobby. I had to practically drag them out of there, but they loved it. I definitely recommend stopping in just to see it.

They were also excited about MINILAND USA where famous landmarks are built out of LEGO bricks. The signs tell you how many LEGO bricks they used and how long it took to build it. It was just fascinating. There were re-creations of national landmarks such as the Daytona International Speedway, Las Vegas, New York, and Washington, D.C.

Their favorite ride was Lost Kingdom Adventure, where you ride in little cars and try to score points with the built-in laser shooter. The boys, of course, left us shamelessly in the dust with their high scores.

For those seeking thrill rides, there are plenty of coasters like The Dragon and Coastersaurus, and you can dodge water blasts with the AQUAZONE® Wave Racers. The boys also wanted to do Driving School and had a ball navigating the waters.

Opening soon is the LEGO Ferrari Build & Race, where you can experience a life-sized LEGO Ferrari 296 GTS. You can sit in the driver’s seat before starting your own Ferrari-building adventure. The boys were happy to take a picture in front of the sign.

Coming this fall is the SEA LIFE Florida Resorta colorful, family-friendly aquarium (separate admission required), where families get up close and personal with marine life. Embark on “a voyage of oceanic exploration,” culminating in “The Theme Park Under the Sea.”

There’s a Lot to Explore in Central Florida

We stayed overnight at the Hampton Inn in Winter Haven, which gave us an opportunity to extend our stay and see even more. The Hampton Inn had the perfect room for all of us, with a complimentary breakfast that the boys adored. I loved watching them make hot chocolate by themselves. A stay also includes free Wi-Fi, free parking, and an outdoor pool.

The next morning, we headed to The Living Water Boat Cruises with Captain Rue Denton for a ride around the Chain of Lakes. Here we looked for alligators, turtles, bald eagles, blue herons, and pelicans. Choose from lunch or dinner cruises, sunset cruises, and more. The boys had a great time and even had a chance to drive the boat. Rue Denton (863-514-7975)

Go Wild at Safari Wilderness Ranch

Later, we headed to Safari Wilderness Ranch, which we had enjoyed last year. We thought the boys would also love this outdoor adventure. Safari Wilderness Ranch is a working game ranch filled with buffalo, ostriches, deer, camels, and more than over 260 acres of pristine wilderness. We drove in a custom safari vehicle where we could get a first-hand view of all the animals with a knowledgeable guide. Or, you can go in your own vehicle on a drive-through tour.

If you prefer a more adventurous mode of transport, you can ride a camel, ATV, or kayak. They also offer exclusive animal encounters, like feeding the ring-tailed lemurs and guinea pigs! Or, you can interact with a cheetah, the fastest mammal on the planet, as he goes about his daily routine.

The boys loved feeding the animals and holding the young puppies. They were fascinated with the ostriches that followed us around looking for more treats.

For something really exotic, Safari Wilderness Ranch also offers camping/glamping tents for an overnight experience.

Looking back, I think this was one of the boys’ most memorable experiences. I know it was for me. Online reservations are required.

Playtime at Florida Children’s Museum

Bring the kids to the oasis of exploration at the Florida Children’s Museum featuring two floors of interactive galleries. The boys loved climbing on the outdoor alligator, Blinky, and were fascinated with the Tik-Tok TBD Gallery to produce videos.

While you’re there, be sure to visit Bonnet Springs Park, an urban park on the grounds of the Children’s Museum, with its innovative playground, botanic gardens, and nature center.
