There are so many diverse experiences to be had in Chickasaw Country. From learning about Chickasaw culture, to adventuring outside, and discovering art, there’s no doubt there will be something to please everyone in your party.
The Chickasaw Cultural Center
The Chickasaw Cultural Center offers a world of opportunity to learn and connect with Native American history. Visitors can watch the story of the Chickasaw people unfold through powerful performances, re-enactments, demonstrations, collections and exhibits. Its 184-acre campus in Sulphur, Oklahoma is one of the largest and most extensive tribal cultural centers in the United States and offers everything from museums and art galleries to food, gardens, and games, as well as an interactive village. During the Stomp Dance demonstration, visitors are invited to join the dance – it’s an amazing way to experience the energy of the culture in a hands-on way. And if you’re too shy to take part, don’t worry – it’s perfectly fine to sit, observe, and enjoy.
777 Zip at Turner Falls
You don’t have to go to the farthest reaches of the earth to find a breathtaking waterfall – you can find one right in Chickasaw Country, at the zipline at Turner Falls Park in Davis, Oklahoma! And at 77 feet tall, it’s the tallest waterfall in Oklahoma (which means spectacular views). Turner Falls Park also has hiking trails, caves to explore, campsites, and cabin rentals! The park also welcomes visitors to swim at the waterfall in the warmer months.
On the zipline towering over 300 feet in the air, you’ll zip backwards 777 feet each way across Turner Falls… where else can you say you ziplined above a waterfall hundreds of feet in the air?! If you get cold feet, there’s no pressure – you can enjoy the reactions of the riders or the beauty of surrounding Turner Falls instead. The viewing point is a 130 foot tower on the mountain above Collings Castle, from which point you will have a spectacular view of Turner Falls.
The Cross Bar Ranch
For those looking to dig into some adventure – and don’t mind getting a little dirty in the process – look no further than Cross Bar Ranch, located just west of Davis, in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains. The ranch spans over 6,500 acres and offers Jeep, ‘Rock Crawler’, UTV, ATV, and dirt bike trails for all skill levels. You’ll find water on several of them, which makes for an exciting and slightly muddy adventure (and also a great way to cool down).
