ANNIE a Family Favorite for Broadway in Chicago

National Tour of Annie cast, featured in Family Travel with Colleen Kelly article

If you haven’t seen ANNIE as a stage production, or even as a movie, chances are you’ve probably at least heard of this popular story. Although it debuted in 1977 on the Broadway stage, it was actually based on Harold Gray’s comic strip “Little Orphan Annie.” It tells the story of an optimistic and plucky young girl who is invited to stay with the wealthy Oliver Warbucks for a holiday…and ends up finding a family and a home.

This particular production is directed by an Original Broadway cast member, Jenn Thompson, who played the role “Pepper” at the age of 10. It is an exciting restaging from someone who knows the show intimately.

You’ll be taken by the charm of the show immediately. Ellie Pulsifer as “Annie,” with adorable dog “Sandy” by side, radiates joy throughout the theater, embodying the persistence and positivity of the beloved character. And the entire cast delivers the humor of the classic punchlines with fresh verve (with a special mention to Stefanie Londino, who stars as “Miss Hannigan.”)

Perhaps the most memorable part is experiencing the younger cast members dominate the stage with an impressive performance of “It’s the Hard Knock Life.” There is no doubt that these young artists have immense talent that will inspire audiences of all ages.

Yes, this is a family-friendly musical. But, even more, the story is enveloped in the theme of family itself: not simply our biological family, but also our found family. Those who we choose to love and dedicate ourselves to.

The musical ANNIE is one to act on and bring the kids along for a night of theater that will leave everyone uplifted and ready to face today and “Tomorrow”…

Now showing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago, ANNIE is here until March 19 to provide an uplifting tale to both new and old audiences alike. Tickets start at $35.
