The Greenway

OUR EXPERIENCE WHILE ON SET

While we were biking on the Greenway, we decided to get the crew a little more involved in filming our experience! We actually put them in bike trailers with us while we were riding along! It was great for the shoot, and definitely something our film crew will never forget. The footage turned out pretty great as well! I did get a little nervous when it started to rain pretty hard, but it passed pretty quickly and we were happily rewarded with a beautiful rainbow!

OUR ADDITIONAL TIP

Looking to maintain your fitness on vacation? I definitely recommend checking out the trails on the Greenway and rent a bike from Clew Bay Bike Hire. The sites along the Greenway are breathtaking and well worth the visit.  The biking path was created on top of an old railway track that runs along the waterfront, from Achill to Westport. Your family will enjoy getting some fresh air and you may want to stop off at along the way to have a picnic in a beautiful setting.

NEED MORE IDEAS???

We did a lot of research for the show! Though we couldn’t visit every destination, we did want to show you what else we found.

Croagh Patrick Stables
Murrisk, Westport, Ireland

Horseback riding can be a great workout and we had the opportunity to try it first hand with some friends at the Croagh Patrick Stables.  We had hoped to go for a nice ride along the beach, but the one day the weather didn’t cooperate was during our horseback ride.  I know what you are thinking, we were pretty lucky that we only had one really bad day of weather! However, we made the most of our time at the stables and enjoyed getting to know the horses and the staff members.

ONE MORE TIP FOR THE ROAD:

If horseback riding isn’t your cup of tea, you might enjoy a hike to the top of Croagh Patrick, which is considered the holiest mountain in Ireland. Croagh Patrick is a destination for pilgrimages, but is also a very popular hiking trail for fitness lovers.  It takes the average person about 2 hours to ascend the mountain and about 1 ½ hours to descend so plan accordingly, especially with children!  Pack snacks and water and pace yourselves.
