OUR EXPERIENCE WHILE ON SET
Fresh ingredients, perfect pints and a welcoming atmosphere…really, we couldn’t ask for anything more! For lunch we enjoyed by far the best Irish stew I have ever had! The seafood was straight from Clew Bay and the vegetables all locally sourced as well. Delicious! The atmosphere was humming…literally! There was a session going on while we were there. A session is an impromptu gathering of musicians who play for the shear enjoyment of the other guests. There were a few gentlemen who broke out in song and we discovered that one of them was actually a relative of my mother! It is a VERY small world in Newport, that’s for certain.
OUR ADDITIONAL TIP
Just a stone’s throw from the pub is a playground. There are picnic tables outside the pub as well if you want to watch the kids play as you enjoy lunch or dinner. You can also take items to go if you want to plan a picnic along the Greenway, the bike trail that runs through Newport.
Additional Mention: You might just catch the glimpse of a prince the next time you stop by Grainne Uaille! The pub and eatery is located in Newport, the ancestral home of Princess Grace of Monaco. Not long ago, her son Prince Albert paid a visit to the pub and had a pint. You never know when he might just pop in again!

Sol Rio
Bridge St Westport, Co. Mayo
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Sol Rio during our visit to Westport. Not only did we have an amazing dining experience, but the owners graciously allowed us to film in their kitchen! We were thrilled to learn that Sol Rio won the Kids Size Me award for Ireland at a prestigious event commonly known as “The Restaurant Oscars’. The award is given by the Restaurants Association of Ireland to applaud the restaurant that best enhances the range and portion size of nutritious meals available to children. Quality food at a reasonable price and DELICIOUS!
ONE MORE TIP:
Willow Cafe Tea Room
High Street, Westport
We had such a lovely afternoon at this lovely tea room, that I would be remiss if I did not mention it. Owned and operated by two sisters, the Willow Cafe proved to be our home away from home while we were filming in Westport one day. The tea soothed the soul and the homemade treats were too tempting to pass up! People who know me well, know that I LOVE a good cup of Irish tea and it will be one of the first places I visit on my return to Westport.
