Custom House
OUR EXPERIENCE WHILE ON SET
Our cast and crew got a true California cultural experience at Custom House. We were able to learn about the rich history and how Monterey was California’s first capital, until Sacramento changed that in 1879. Also, we learned that Custom House is actually the oldest government building in California, making it the states #1 landmark. If you’re interested in architecture, you’ll want to see this structure.
OUR ADDITIONAL TIP
Parking can be a hassle at any popular location, but lucky for you we got a tip that will save you some money! If you don’t mind a short walk, there is a public parking garage at Del Monte and Tyler.
NEED MORE IDEAS???
We did a lot of research for the show! Though we couldn’t visit every destination, we did want to show you what else we found.
Old Whaling Station Adobe 391 Decatur St, Monterey, CA 93940 Walk on rare walkway made entirely of whale vertebrae at Old Whaling Station. David Wight made this piece of history, built in 1847, for his wife and daughter. Eight-years later, Old Monterey Whaling Company began shore-whaling operations and used this location for employees. Today, it’s kept to its historical roots, surrounded by gorgeous roses and other plant-life. You’ll want to feel the ocean breeze, hear the seagull’s call, or even the distant foghorns.
