One of my favorite childhood travel memories was visiting my grandparents in California. At the time our family was living in Arizona and California was within comfortable driving distance. I vividly remember pulling up to our grandparents driveway and seeing their smiling faces, anticipating a fun and spoiled visit. My grandmother frequented local “swap meets” in California, or eccentric flea markets, which always paid off for me and my sister. Every time we visited she would have new fun kids activities ready for us. These included hours of enjoyment due to new additions to her huge box of Barbies. The fact that they lived only 30 minutes from Disneyland never seemed to escape two little girls! Traveling with family was always fun, especially when we visited our relatives! It’s early memories like these that makes me appreciate family travel so much more.
